Why Play World Checkers Master?

World Checkers Master is a free, no-download browser checkers game from snoopbee.com. Challenge a computer opponent, pass the device to a friend, or play someone anywhere in the world with online multiplayer — and unlike most checkers apps, you're not locked into one rule set.

The game supports three regional variants side by side: American / English Checkers, International Draughts on a 10×10 board, and Brazilian / Spanish Checkers. Switching between them from the same menu makes it a genuinely global take on the game, whether you grew up calling it checkers or draughts.

Choosing a Rule Set

Checkers rules vary more by region than most players realize. World Checkers Master lets you pick your variant from the rule set selector before starting a game, and each one changes the board size, piece count, and how captures work.

✅ GOOD TO KNOW

American rules are the most common in the US, Canada, and Australia. International Draughts is the standard for global tournament play. Brazilian checkers is a popular hybrid — same 8×8 board as American, but with the flying kings and backward captures of the international game.

Before kings and captures come into play, every game starts with the basic move: a man steps one square diagonally forward onto an empty square, always staying on the dark squares.

Kings, Flying Kings & Mandatory Jumps

Any man that reaches the far row is crowned and becomes a king, marked with a crown icon on its piece. What a king can actually do depends on your rule set:

  • American kings move and capture exactly one square diagonally, in any of the four directions — more mobile than a man, but still a single step at a time.
  • Flying kings (International and Brazilian rules) can glide across any number of empty squares along a diagonal, and capture an enemy piece anywhere along that line, landing on any empty square beyond it.

To capture in any rule set, jump your piece diagonally over an adjacent enemy piece into the empty square beyond it. If another capture is immediately available with the same piece, the jump chains automatically into a multi-jump — keep jumping until no further capture is possible.

⚠️ MANDATORY JUMP RULE

Official checkers rules require you to capture whenever a capture is available — you can't choose to make a quiet move instead. World Checkers Master enforces this by default. If you'd rather play a relaxed, casual variant, switch off Mandatory Jump in the control bar before starting a game.

Playing Against the Computer

Select Vs. Computer from the mode selector and pick a difficulty. The AI opponent runs a minimax search with alpha-beta pruning against the current board position:

DifficultyWhat to Expect
EasyShallow search with occasional weaker moves — a forgiving opponent for players still learning the rules.
MediumA balanced search that plans several moves ahead and punishes obvious blunders.
HardA deep, time-boxed search that evaluates material, king value, and board position — a real test even for experienced players.

Local & Online Multiplayer

Besides Vs. Computer, World Checkers Master offers two ways to play against another person:

ModeHow It Works
👥 Local 2-PlayerPass the same device back and forth. Turn on Auto-Rotate in the control bar so the board flips to face whoever is moving.
🌐 Online MultiplayerSelect Online Multiplayer, then Create Game to generate a 6-character Game ID and a direct join link. Share it via WhatsApp or by copying the link — no account needed for either player.

The player who creates the game plays Gold and moves first; the player who joins plays Crimson and moves second. The connection runs directly peer-to-peer between browsers, so there's no waiting on a central server.

Controls — Desktop & Mobile

Click or tap a piece to select it — legal destination squares highlight automatically, with red highlights marking capture moves and green marking quiet moves. Click or tap a highlighted square to complete the move. Touch controls on mobile work exactly the same way, no dragging required.

A side panel tracks the move timer, captured pieces for each side, and a full move history log in algebraic notation, so you can always follow what just happened. Your game state auto-saves, so refreshing the page picks up right where you left off.

Tips & Basic Strategy

Unlike a pure luck game, checkers rewards a bit of planning. A few fundamentals that carry across all three rule sets:

  1. Control the center columns — pieces there reach more diagonals and have more room to maneuver than pieces stuck on the edge.
  2. Don't rush your back row — keeping a few men on your starting row makes it harder for the opponent to promote a king near your side of the board.
  3. Watch for forced multi-jumps — with Mandatory Jump on, a single careless move can open up a two- or three-piece chain capture against you.
  4. Kings are worth protecting — especially flying kings in International and Brazilian rules, which can dominate open diagonals from across the board.
  5. Start on Easy or Medium if you're new to a rule set — Hard plays a genuinely deep search and will punish early mistakes.
  6. Use the move log to review a game afterward and spot where a capture chain turned the position.
  7. Try Brazilian rules as a stepping stone to International Draughts — same familiar 8×8 board, but with flying kings to get used to before jumping to the bigger 10×10 board.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is World Checkers Master free to play?
Yes — 100% free with no download and no registration. Play at snoopbee.com/checkers.html.

What's the difference between checkers and draughts?
They're the same family of games under different regional names — "checkers" in the US, "draughts" internationally. The specific rules for board size, king movement, and capture direction vary by variant, which is why this game supports American, International, and Brazilian rule sets.

How do flying kings work?
In International Draughts and Brazilian Checkers, a crowned king can slide across any number of empty squares along a diagonal and capture an enemy piece anywhere along that line, landing on any empty square beyond it. American kings move only one square at a time.

Is capturing mandatory?
Under official rules, yes — if a capture is available you must take it, and multi-jump chains must be completed. Turn off the Mandatory Jump toggle for a more relaxed, casual game.

How many players can play locally?
Exactly 2, passing the same device back and forth. Turn on Auto-Rotate so the board faces whoever's turn it is.

How does online multiplayer work?
Create a game to get a 6-character Game ID and shareable link, or join a friend's game by entering their ID. The match runs peer-to-peer with no account required.

Can I change the AI difficulty mid-game?
Difficulty is set when you start a new game. Start a new game from the header to pick a different level.
