Why Play Dragons & Ladders in 2026?

Dragons & Ladders is a free, no-download browser take on the classic Snakes and Ladders board game from snoopbee.com. Roll the dice, climb ladders, dodge dragons, and race to square 100 — alone with friends on one device, or against someone anywhere in the world via online multiplayer.

The game's own How to Play screen says it best: it's pure luck, no skill needed — which is exactly what makes it so accessible and fun for every age, from young kids to grandparents, in the same game night.

The Real Rules & Objective

Be the first player to reach square 100 — but you must land exactly on it. If your roll would take you past 100, you simply stay where you are and wait for a better roll next turn.

Click Roll Dice to roll a standard 6-sided die and move your token forward that many squares. Roll a 6 and you get an immediate extra turn — chain several 6s in a row and you can cover serious ground in one go.

✅ GOOD TO KNOW

There are no power-ups, shields, or special abilities in Dragons & Ladders. It's a clean, classic dice-race — the dragons, ladders, and your dice rolls are the entire game.

Every Ladder & Dragon Position

Land on the bottom of a ladder and you climb straight to the top. Land on a dragon's head and you get blasted back down to its tail. Here are the exact positions on the board:

🪜 Ladders (bottom → top)🐉 Dragons (head → tail)
4 → 1417 → 7
9 → 3154 → 34
21 → 4262 → 19
28 → 8464 → 60
51 → 6787 → 24
71 → 9193 → 73
80 → 10095 → 75
99 → 78
⚠️ THE 99 TRAP

Landing on square 99 sends you all the way back to 78 — brutal if you've just spent the whole game climbing. Squares 95, 93, and 87 carry similarly steep drops. There's no way to avoid these except rolling differently, since the board is fixed and luck-based.

Local & Online Multiplayer

Dragons & Ladders offers two ways to play, both reachable from the New Game screen:

ModeHow It Works
🏠 Local2 to 4 players take turns on the same device. Enter player names on the "Who's Playing?" screen, or leave them blank to use defaults like "Player 1."
🌐 Online2 players only. Click Online in the header, create a game to get a 6-character Game ID, then share it via WhatsApp, email (Gmail, Outlook, Yahoo Mail), or the default mail app — or just copy the ID directly.
ℹ️ ONLINE MULTIPLAYER DETAILS

The player who creates the game enters their name and goes first; the player who joins enters the shared Game ID and goes second. No account or sign-up is required for either player.

Tips for Family Game Night

Since the game is genuinely luck-based with no strategic decisions to make beyond clicking Roll Dice, the "tips" that matter most are about the experience rather than tactics:

  1. Memorize the big ladders (28→84, 80→100) so you know when a roll is about to be huge for whoever lands on them.
  2. Watch out for square 99 — it's the steepest drop on the board, sending you back to 78.
  3. Use Local mode for in-person game nights — up to 4 players can pass the same device around the table.
  4. Use Online mode for long-distance play — share your Game ID with a friend or family member anywhere and play head-to-head.
  5. Let younger kids play unaided — there's no skill required, so it's genuinely fair for mixed-age groups.
  6. Chase the 6s — rolling a 6 gives an extra turn, so a hot streak of 6s can swing a game fast regardless of position.
  7. Check the Game Log if you lose track of who's where — it records every roll and move in order.
