Basic Rules & Objective

The goal is to be the first to reach 100 points across multiple rounds by forming valid melds and minimizing your deadwood (unmatched cards). Each round deals 10 cards to each player. You take turns drawing from the Stock or taking the top Discard card, then discarding one card to end your turn.

A round ends when a player Knocks or goes Gin. Points are then tallied and the next round begins — play continues until someone's running total hits 100.

Melds — Sets and Runs

Meld TypeDescriptionExample
Set3–4 cards of the same rank, different suits7♥ 7♦ 7♠
Run3+ consecutive ranks in the same suit. Ace is always low.4♠ 5♠ 6♠
✅ BEGINNER TIP

Focus on building low-deadwood hands. High cards like Kings and Queens are costly if left unmatched when a round ends.

How to Play — Turn Structure

  1. Draw: Click "Draw from Deck" or "Take Discard" to pick up a card.
  2. Discard: Tap a card to select it (it lifts in gold), then click "Discard Card."

A 💡 Hint button is available if you want a suggestion on your turn. Play continues round after round until someone Knocks or goes Gin and ends the current round.

Knock, Gin & the Undercut Rule

🤜 Knock: If your remaining deadwood is 10 points or less, click Knock. Your opponent gets one final turn to lay off cards onto your melds before scoring.

🥂 Gin: If all 10 of your cards are in melds (deadwood = 0), click Gin for a +25 point bonus plus your opponent's full deadwood total. Going Gin also prevents the opponent from laying off any cards.

⚠️ THE UNDERCUT RULE

If you Knock but your opponent's deadwood ends up equal to or lower than yours after their lay-off turn, they "undercut" you — and they receive a +25 point bonus instead of you. Only Knock when you're confident your deadwood is genuinely lower, not just "good enough."

Local Leaderboard

After a match ends, you'll be prompted to enter your initials and save your score. The leaderboard tracks your Top 10 scores on this specific device — it isn't a global ranking against other players. Columns are # (rank), Player (your initials), Date, and Score. A "Clear leaderboard" option lets you reset it whenever you want a fresh start.

Beginner & Advanced Strategies

For beginners: Prioritize forming melds early. Discard high cards that don't fit any potential run or set. Watch your opponent's discards — the game's own tip reminds you that tracking what they throw away reveals which cards are safe to discard without helping their melds.

Advanced: Keep flexible hands that can adapt to multiple meld possibilities rather than committing early to one combination. Hold connector cards (middle ranks) that block your opponent's potential runs, and weigh every Knock against the undercut risk before committing.

12 Tips to Win More Games

  1. Discard high-value cards early unless they're close to completing a meld.
  2. Track your opponent's discards — it reveals what they're not collecting.
  3. Build toward low deadwood for safer Knocks.
  4. Go for Gin when your hand is strong enough — the +25 plus their deadwood is a big swing.
  5. Use the Ace wisely; it's only worth 1 point as deadwood.
  6. Hold connector cards to block your opponent's likely runs.
  7. Use the 💡 Hint button if you're stuck deciding your move.
  8. Never Knock on a close margin — the undercut rule can flip the round against you.
  9. Keep mental notes on which ranks have already appeared in discards.
  10. Don't hoard high cards hoping for a "perfect" meld — discard them before they cost you.
  11. In online play, decide who goes first deliberately rather than rushing the choice.
  12. Play multiple rounds patiently — the 100-point match rewards consistency over one lucky hand.
⚠️ COMMON MISTAKE

Many beginners hold onto high cards hoping for a perfect meld. This often leads to high deadwood losses when the round ends unexpectedly. Be willing to discard them strategically instead.
